What is Kinuxota OTA?
Kinuxota OTA is a comprehensive Over-The-Air update system for IoT devices. It consists of a C++ client library that runs on devices and a web dashboard for managing devices, updates, and commands.
What platforms are supported?
The Kinuxota client supports Linux-based IoT devices. The web dashboard runs on any modern web browser.
Is Kinuxota free to use?
Kinuxota follows a freemium model. The free tier allows you to manage up to 3 devices. Paid tiers with higher device limits and additional features will be available in the future.
Device Management
How do I add a new device?
Navigate to the Device Management page
Click the “Add Device” button
Fill in the required information
Click “Create Device”
How do I delete a device?
Navigate to the Device Management page
Find the device you want to delete
Click the “Delete” button (trash icon)
Confirm the deletion
What happens when a device is deleted?
When a device is deleted, all its data (commands, packages, etc.) is removed from the system. The device will no longer be able to connect to the dashboard using its API key.
Commands
What types of commands can I send to devices?
You can send shell commands, system commands, and package management commands to devices.
How do I send a command to a device?
Navigate to the Device Management page
Select a device from the list
Click the “Open Command Terminal” button
Enter your command
Click “Send Command”
Scripts
What is the difference between commands and scripts?
Commands are single operations that are executed on the device, while scripts are collections of commands that can perform more complex operations.
Can I include additional files with my scripts?
Yes, you can include additional files (configuration files, data files, helper scripts, etc.) that will be deployed alongside the main script.
Packages
What package managers are supported?
Currently, the system supports APT for Debian-based systems (Ubuntu, Debian). Support for additional package managers will be added in future releases.
Can I install a specific version of a package?
Yes, when installing a package, you can specify the version you want to install.
How do I update all packages on a device?
Currently, you need to update packages individually. Bulk update functionality is planned for a future release.
Security
How are devices authenticated?
Devices authenticate with the system using API keys. When a device is created, the system generates a unique API key that the device must include in all API requests.
How are users authenticated?
Users authenticate with the system using JWT-based authentication. User passwords are securely hashed and stored in the database.
Is communication between devices and the server secure?
Yes, all communication between devices and the server can be secured using HTTPS. MQTT communication can also be secured using TLS.
Troubleshooting
A device is showing as offline. What should I do?
Check if the device is powered on and connected to the network
Verify that the device has the correct API key
Check if the device can reach the server (network connectivity)
I can’t send commands to a device. What could be wrong?
Check if the device is online
Verify that you have the necessary permissions
Check if the device is currently executing another command
