Device Management

The Device Management section of the Kinuxota OTA dashboard allows you to register, monitor, and manage your IoT devices.

Device List

The device list displays all registered devices with their key information:

  • Name: The friendly name of the device

  • Serial Number: The unique serial number of the device

  • Status: Current status (ONLINE, OFFLINE, UPDATING, ERROR)

  • Last Seen: When the device last communicated with the server

  • Firmware Version: Current firmware version running on the device

Device Status Indicators

  • OFFLINE (Gray): The device has not communicated with the server recently

  • UPDATING (Blue): The device is currently applying an update

  • ERROR (Red): The device has reported an error condition

Adding a New Device

To add a new device to the system:

  1. Click the Add Device button in the top-right corner of the Device Management page

  2. Fill in the required information:

    • Name: A friendly name for the device

    • Serial Number: A unique identifier for the device

    • Description (optional): Additional information about the device

    • MAC Address (optional): The device’s MAC address

    • Model (optional): The device model or type

  3. Click Create Device

After creating a device, the system will generate an API key. This key is displayed only once, so make sure to save it securely. The device will use this API key to authenticate with the system.

Click on a device in the list to view its details page, which includes:

  • Device Information: Name, serial number, status, etc.

  • Command History: Recent commands sent to the device

  • Package Information: Software packages installed on the device

  • Logs: Device logs for troubleshooting

  • Health Metrics: CPU, memory, and disk usage

Device Actions

From the device details page, you can perform several actions:

  • Send Command: Execute a command on the device

  • Update Firmware: Deploy a firmware update

  • Manage Packages: Install, update, or remove software packages

  • View Logs: Access device logs for troubleshooting

Sending Commands to Devices

To send a command to a device:

  1. Select one or more devices from the device list

  2. Click the Open Command Terminal button

  3. Enter your command in the terminal

  4. Click Send Command

The command will be sent to the selected devices, and the results will be displayed in the terminal once the devices have executed the command.

Device Authentication

Devices authenticate with the system using API keys. When a device is created, the system generates a unique API key that the device must include in all API requests.

The API key is displayed only once when the device is created. If the key is lost, you will need to regenerate it from the device details page.

Device Registration Process

The device registration process involves two steps:

  1. Dashboard Registration: An administrator creates the device in the dashboard, which generates an API key

  2. Device Registration: The device uses the API key to register itself with the system

Once registered, the device can communicate with the system to receive commands, report status, and perform updates.
